Synopsis
Kanana Kanu depicts two parallel stories which tell John’s experiences and his cultural travelogues. The other story revolves around the oral narratives of the I-Kalingas. This particular mythology embodies the true essence of the I-Kalingas’ cultural values.
Full Synopsis:
John a young man, half- American and half- Kalinga travelled for a vacation in his mother’s birthplace at the village named Magobya. Unknowingly, he immersed himself in the culture of the community, living in a simple, practical and natural lifestyle. In his short stay, he was able to listen to the never ending story of Fanna and Laggunawa. When the story was chanted by Fangnay, a bard singer, a new experience was opened to John as though he journeyed to another dimension of time and space. As the story unfolded, he was able to vividly see how the heroic warrior named Fanna met the ever outstanding beauty, Lagunnawa. His immersion and cultural re-rooting helped him to know more about himself, his true cultural identity, and the importance of re-living one's own cultural heritage .
