SI PAGONG AT MATSING

| |
Synopsis
Matsing thinks highly of himself and uses his brains to try and outwit the nice and helpful Pagong. Matsing befriends Pagong as the latter is out walking in the forest. They stumble upon a banana plant lying on the forest floor. The two decide to split the plant in half, Matsing insisting on getting what he thinks is the good half–the upper, leafy part of the tree. They plant their respective halves, but Matsing’s half dies while Pagong’s lower half has fully grown, bearing bananas. Matsing offers to help Pagong harvest the bananas and climbs up the tree. Instead of harvesting the fruits, he eats them all up. Pagong retaliates by placing thorns around the tree. Matsing is hurt by the thorns and vows revenge on Pagong. He threatens Pagong with various ways of dying, but in the end, Pagong manages to outwit Matsing and escapes with his life. This is an adaptation from the Filipino folktale "The Monkey and the Turtle." Using cutout and flash animation, this adaptation updates and makes the story relevant to contemporary viewers.
