Free Screening of Filipino Classics to celebrate the 1st PH Film Industry Month

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, AUGUST 31, 2021 — As we celebrate the first Philippine Film Industry Month on September, the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) Philippine Film Archive (PFA) will hold free screenings of eight restored film classics  through From the Archive: Pamanang Pelikula from September 1 to 30 on the FDCP Channel. 

The PFA’s From the Archive: Pamanang Pelikula commemorates the invaluable contributions of some of the country’s best films in a curated lineup masterpieces from the 1970s to 1990s featuring our national artists and notable filmmakers.

The eight titles are available throughout September on the FDCP Channel, an exclusive FDCP-managed platform that lets audiences enjoy quality local and international content online.

"This year, in celebration of the first Philippine Film Industry Month, FDCP has prepared exciting events, starting off with our Archive’s launch of a month-long free screening of films not only to honor the history of Philippine filmmaking, but also to recognize the present and future stakeholders of the industry," said FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño.

The From the Archive: Pamanang Pelikula lineup will feature eight films that depict both classic and contemporary films that took part in molding the nation’s film heritage. Starting September 1 until 30, the following films are available to stream on the FDCP Channel: 

  • “Brutal” by Marilou Diaz-Abaya 

  • “Insiang” by Lino Brocka

  • “White Slavery” by Lino Brocka

  • “Manila by Night” by Ishmael Bernal 

  • “Pagdating sa Dulo” by Ishmael Bernal

  • “Sinong Lumikha ng Yoyo, Sino Lumikha ng Moon Buggy” by Kidlat Tahimik

  • “Turumba” by Kidlat Tahimik

  • “The Sex Warriors and the Samurai” by Nick Deocampo

Under the Film Restoration Program of PFA, six titles were funded for restoration, while “The Sex Warriors and the Samurai” by Deocampo and “Turumba” by Tahimik were fully restored within the facilities. In 2019, the 1976 film entitled "Sakada" by director Bhen Cervantes and writers Oscar Miranda and Lualhati Bautista, was the first completed in-house film restoration.
